Lou Badger is an eponymous slow fashion brand for all genders that expresses a reverence for the ancestral sustainability practices of its Designer and Creative Director. Unique and voluminous silhouettes united with themes of redemption, circularity, and versatility shape the design approach. each piece is made locally and ethically with majority pre-loved materials.
Established in 2019 by Lou while working as an 11-year educator in Philadelphia schools, the Black queer-owned brand is in an exciting period of growth following being awarded winner of the inaugural 2021 Amiri Prize, a fashion incubator for undiscovered talent and those on an unconventional path.
LOU BADGER
Founder & Creative Director
Lou Badger was born during a rebirth of self. Motivated by the idea of “defining yourself for yourself”, the name change was inspired by a meditative reflection of identity and personal evolution. We are the ones who determine how our names are uttered and contextualized. With fashion as our medium, we piece together a freedom collage of individuality– of blackness, queerness, and aliveness in all its various expressions.
Now, we emerge with new bones. Adhering to the same core values of redemption and slow fashion, we’re expanding our offerings to include designs inspired by the one-of-ones from our first two collections. These single fabric designs will be created with deadstock fabric sourced from Los Angeles and will be available in limited stock by pre-order.
Both the Lou Badger and Redeem by Lou Badger collections illuminate the revolutionary power of claiming our own identity, self-determination, and heightened consumer consciousness.
